Healthy Summer Snacks

Just a few snacking options I came across. All creds go to Tumblr of course.

Protect Your Hair!

Summer heat= SUNSCREEN! It's also important to have SPF protecting your hair. SUN Combs are designed to apply sunscreen and olive oil to shield your head from harsh sunlight and UV rays. These combs help with frizz and give your hair a boost of shine. SUN Combs are only $5.99. Give them a try!

How To: Fake Your 8 Hours!

We all have those restless nights that haunt us the next day, leaving our eyes are bloodshot. My go-to fix is always downing coffee. I recently came across a blogpost on how models most commonly travel from different time zones and such which causes them to appear dead tired with red glazed over eyes. The post suggested Rohto Eye Drops, $7.50. They supposedly work miracles and within seconds your eyes are whiter and clearer. I'm dying to try these out but I have no idea where to purchase them!

MAC Must Haves!

(Sorry for the low resolution picture, my sister took her good camera to camp :/)

As seen in the picture above:
-Studio Sculpt Concealer . . . purchased at my local MAC store
-Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Sunbasque . . . given to me from my older sister
-Icescape Lipglass (May be limited addition) . . . purchased at a discounted MAC store
-Kissable Lipcolour in Angel . . . purchased downtown (It might not even be a real MAC product)
-Angled brush (266SE) . . . given to me from my mom
-Eyeshadow: 12 Fresh Cut . . . purchased downtown (It might not even be a real MAC product)
-6 Eyeshadow Holiday Palette . . . purchased at a discounted MAC store
-5 Mini Holiday Pigments . . . purchased at a discounted MAC store

I'm not that much of a "cult favorites follower" as far as MAC makeup goes. I do own a few products that you can see above, however most of them are from discounted counters. Out of the MAC products I own, my top favorites that I would recommend are the studio sculpt concealer. This concealer has full coverage so I'd suggest it if you have troubled skin. I have sensitive skin and this concealer doesn't break me out whatsoever. Another product I find great use out of is all of my mini MAC pigments. I personally think mini pigments last so long and it's just more convenient to purchase them as a set rather than buy a full sized of a more expensive pigment. Because I'm not such a MAC junkie I'll link a few youtube videos that might help you out!

CURL THOSE LASHES !!!!

Let me tell you something. Heated eyelash curlers are supposedly incredible, however i've never even thought of purchasing one because I didn't allow myself to splurge. They're just too pricey, and my good ol' eyelash curler works just fine to me! It would be nice to try a heated one out, which intrigued me when I saw this brilliant idea! Blast your hairdryer onto your eyelash curler for 20 seconds. Wait for it to cool down before using!! Test it out with your finger to make sure it isn't too hot. I haven't tried this trick yet but i'm planning on doing so soon! If you guys try it let me know how you like it!

Bet you wouldn't have ever thought of this!

Okay, well I'm definitely the type of person who thinks about germs and every possible way I can avoid them! It grosses me out whenever something isn't 100% clean. Call me OCD, but that's just me. Anyway, I came across one of Lauren, Kristen, and Amy's blog posts on how cleaning your phone is extremely important. It discussed how bacteria collects on the surface of your phone. That bacteria is then transferred onto your face and causes blackheads, blemishes, and sometimes full breakouts. According to what those 3 gals discovered, "Skin care experts + dermatologists can usually tell which side you use most when talking on the phone". It may very well be affecting you and you might not know it because it could be building up from underneath your skin where you can't see. Wipe down your phone with a small amount of rubbing alcohol to solve this!!

The Ultimate Secret to BEAUTY Awaits You!!

Can you guess what it may be? Here's a hint. You can't live without it and well, frankly, I can't think of any clever hints so here it is...... WATER! Water can often be quite boring to most, so why not spice it up a bit! (This actually goes for anything. Don't be afraid to get a little creative). Lauren Conrad has an incredible beauty blog and created three ways to jazz up your H20...
*Fruit- Slice it up and toss it in. Try different combinations to add some refreshing flavor! You can add cucumbers, lemons, limes, oranges, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwi, peaches, and so on.
*Mint- Add a few mint leaves to your glass of water!
*Ice- Fill an ice tray with your fav all natural fruit juice and put that in the freezer. When the cubes have frozen add a few to your water (limeade works well!)

Hurrrrr !!!

Here it is! I decided to change things up a bit and blog about hair! I used to completely neglect my hair pretty much 100%. I wash it everyday and would use either Pantene, Herbal Essences, or whatever shampoo that looked pretty and smelled good to be honest. I knew washing my hair everyday was already bad and then on top of that I wasn't getting a high quality shampoo either. My hair looked okay to me, so it never bothered me enough to make the effort to enhance and improve my hair routine.

All About Sulfates........!
I then started hearing so much talk about how sulfates and parabens are bad for your hair, yet I had no idea as to what those where. Soooooo.... as a curious person would do, I googled it! According to my research, I found out that sulfates are actually short for sulfuric acid!!!! eeeeeekk. We all know acid is terrible for your hair! (never try the lemon trick!). That alone made me cringe at the fact that I have been supposedly "washing" my hair every day of my life for 16 years with ACID. Sulfates is what helps your shampoo to lather so nicely. According to Buzzle.com, "This compound tends to make hair dry very quickly. It strips your hair off its moisture and other essential oils. It also damages your hair follicles and results in hair loss. It is extremely dangerous to hair follicles that are exposed. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is also harmful to color treated hair as it tends to fade the color with every wash. As a result, you might have to color your hair very frequently, which in turn leads to more damage to your hair".

All About Parabens........!
Chemically, parabens are esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Oy, another acid. Like I said above, acid is a big "no no". Parabens are preservatives that may be found in food and cosmetics.

Okay, now that's out of the way let's continue! Additionally, I would BARELY EVER use a heat protectant and when I did (which was less than one time per month) It would be the CHI 44 Iron Guard. I always had split ends and areas that were dry.

Recently, I decided to branch out and really change the way I was treating my hair. It was definitely time! I purchased the L'Oreal's Ever Sleek Sulfate and Silicone-Free Intense Smoothing Shampoo (48 Hour Frizz Control). The other sulfate-free shampoo I bought is the Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo. I abosoluetly LOVE both and have found my hair to be less frizzy, softer, shinier, and healthier looking.

Also, after I was my hair and let it sit for around 5 minutes I go ahead and apply about 2 pea-sized amounts of any leave-in conditioner I have at the moment to my ends. If you have oily hair you never want to apply a leave-in conditioner to the upper part of your hair/scalp.

Because it's summer I've rarely been using heat on my hair but if I do, I'll make sure to use a heat protectant which is highly imperative to maintaining healthy hair!

That's it! I hope you find this blog post helpful and I encourage all of you to do the same! If you have ANY questions please please ask me!
XOXO

P.S. I just remembered that I should tell you guys that I used Nexxus conditioner which isn't sulfate-free. I'm just taking things one step at a time!

Color Pop!!

For those of you who are a bit too scared to wear colorful eyeshadows or blushes and such this blog post is for you! Using a colored eyeliner on your waterline (on the bottom) adds excitement without going too overboard and also brings out your eye color depending what color you choose to use. Purple is a universal color that looks good with pretty much all eye colors especially hazel eyes. Here are a few examples I found. Click the image to enlarge it.

Bold Eyes/Lips 101

Bold eyes and lips are very fashion forward and exhibit ones true confidence to try something a bit more risky. There's one rule you must follow in order to pull off either one. If thou wishes to wear statement lips, thou shall wear neutral eyes. This also goes to say that if thou wishes to wear a statement eye look, thou shall wear neutral lips. Here are a few examples that I gathered. I dare YOU to try something different!

How To- Brighten Eyes

Ever feel like you've been deprived of sleep so you find yourself downing coffee in hopes that it makes up for the lack of Zzz's you've been getting? Here's a quick fix! Apply/dab any sort of white eyeshadow, shadestick, or eyeliner to the inner corners of your eyes for a brightening effect. This gives the allusion that you are more awake. It also adds for a glowy touch which is perfect for summer!

Look at this fabbb example worn by Blake Lively!! She wears this look daily.

Current Makeup Collection!

As promised months back, here is my current makeup collection! There are a few other products that couldn't fit into that drawer but these are pretty much my essentials. I'm still in the works of getting more! This in no way is intended for me to brag about what I have. I have payed for almost all of it myself.

This is temporary storage for my makeup because I'm still seeking a more efficient and organized way to keep it all. I used to store everything makeup-wise in my bathroom drawers however, the humidity from the shower isn't good as far as preserving makeup goes. Note to self: NEVER STORE MAKEUP IN YOUR BATHROOM!!

Tinted Moisturizers 101! Laura Mercier vs. Clinique

As requested by a viewer, I will be laying out all the facts you need to know when it comes to tinted moisturizers. I used to simply use bare mineral's loose powder foundation, however I now use a concealer then a tinted moisturizer, then a pressed powder to set the tinted moisturizer. I highly suggest applying your foundation this way because it looks much more natural and the products last longer!

So for those of you who are new to the world of tinted moisturizers like I was around 5 months ago, you are probably wondering what exactly a tinted moisturizer is. Think of a tinted moisturizer as a "low-fat version of foundation". It's like a foundation that provides less coverage. Some tinted moisturizers contain an SPF, which is definitely a pro. You always want to apply some sort of SPF to your face before leaving your house at all times and I find it brilliant that you can knock off this step by just applying your daily foundation. I also use aveeno's positively radiant moisturizer before applying anything to my skin which contains an SPF of 15. It's like double protection!

I do have oily skin so the very first tinted moisturizer that I purchased was the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. It's $42, very pricey. Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer is very lightweight and not greasy. After making use of this product for around 2-3 months (AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME!!) I decided to not repurchase it. I figured there had to be something better and less expensive. I then bought Clinique's Even Better Makeup SPF 15. This product is categorized as a foundation but I feel that it is more of a tinted moisturizer. It costs $24.50. I love it even better than the Laura Mercier one!! (LOL, did you notice the play on words....get it? the name of the product..) The Clinique moisturizer, or foundation as they call it, had a bit more coverage and a cleaner pay off. One of the reasons I never settle for a product that is just "okay" is for this exact reason. I always seek products that are of higher quality and less costly.

Lastly, I just wanted to add in the fact that my skin runs on the sensitive side and neither one of these tinted moisturizers broke my skin out or irritated it so that's always something to keep in mind. And to sum things up......If you have oily skin DO use an oil-free tinted moisturizer.

If any of you have any questions that you would like to ask me privately, don't hesitate to email me at this address: beautyblog101@hotmail.com

May Favsss

Before I get started with my favorites for this month, I want to share with you guys this really helpful trick that I've been doing quite often. Halfway through the day my face starts to get a bit oily so here's what you need to do if you don't have oil blotting sheets! (which are a good investment btw)

*Tear a square of toilet paper in half and take the thinner part and use that to blot oil. This actually works amazingly!

Now... onto the products!!

-Sephora Collection Flashy Waterproof Eyeliner (Deep Black) $8
Doesn't smudge. Easy to take off at night. Vivid color. Well priced for a department store quality eyeliner.

-Lush Rock Star Soap (Price will vary depending on what size you purchase)
Lingering smell. Leaves your skin feeling silky and moisturized.

-R&B Hair Treatment $18.95
Great for protecting hair before using heat. Eliminates frizz. Camouflages and prevents split ends. Leaves hair feeling smooth and detangles.

-Buxom Lash: Mascara $18
Gives the appearances of false eyelashes. Doesn't clump or flake. Amazing color pay-off.

-OPI "I Pink I Love You" $8.50
Sleek classy everyday color. Very feminine.

Enjoy! <3

Makeup Can Expire!?!?!

Yep. You saw that right! There ARE expiration dates on makeup and it's very important for you to always pay attention to how long you keep a product because as you continue to use the specific product, bacteria builds up which can cause breakouts. eeeeek!! no one wants unnecessary breakouts that can EASILY be avoiding by simply throwing out your makeup that is no longer safe to use.

I'm going to start off with a tip that most people don't know. The second you open a new product, that's when your "expiration countdown" starts. I don't know if that makes sense, but basically you shouldn't open up a new product unless you need it. For example, let's say you are running out of concealer and you have 2-3 uses of it left and you purchase a new one at this time. You go home and reaaaallyyyy want to try it out..... don't......!!!! Wait until you are completely done with the other concealer first! I understand if that is really hard for you to do because I'm always so excited to try out new products!

Here are some basic makeup expiration guidelines:

Oil-free foundation: 1 year
Cream or compact foundation: 18 months
Concealer: 12-18 months
Powder: 2 years
Blush and bronzer: 2 years
Cream blush: 12-18 months
Powder eyeshadow: 2 years
Cream eyeshadow: 12-18 months
Eyeliner: 2 years
Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
Mascara: 3 months
Lipstick: 2 years
Lip liner: 2 years
Lip gloss: 18-24 months
Nail color: 1 year
Fragrance: 2-5 years

(Found on http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/just-for-fun/how-closely-do-you-follow-makeup-expiration-guidelines/)

The products that you need to especially focus on replacing consist of MASCARA and LIQUID EYELINER!

My Foundation Routine!

My foundation is something that is really important to me and it's what I invest most in. Flawless skin is an essential when it comes to boosting your confidence. When my skin is clear I feel so much better about myself and It helps me reach an overall happiness. Therefore, I don't feel guilty at all spending a little more money to achieve this. Here's what I do!

***(Keep in mind, I shower at night, remove all my makeup, and wash my face at this time. Then, I wake up with a fresh clean face and do not wash it a second time before applying my makeup)

Step 1: Firstly, I apply Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with an SPF of 30 all over my entire face. I then let that set so I can continue with my routine.

Step 2: Now I take my MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer and apply it to my problem areas using a fine tip brush where it can easily provide good coverage to all of my blemishes. This step is KEY to reaching pretttty skin! Sometimes, if I have under-eye circles I will apply some concealer to them as well, just to make sure that I don't look like a zombie!

Step 3: Once my face has been moisturized and my blemishes have been concealed, I take a medium sized brush and apply my bareMinerals MATTE SPF 15 powder foundation to my entire face. I then go in with a larger, fluffier brush and do the same thing, adding a little more product, but mainly blending everything together.

Step 4: The basics of my foundation have now been completed. I then add a highlight, Benefit's Highbeam to my upper cheek bones for a bit of shine and dimension. This easy and subtle step truly makes a huge difference.

Step 5: I then go ahead and apply my Faux Tan All-Over Face Color (Bronzer to contour my cheekbones) by bareMinerals.

Step 6: The last thing I do for my foundation routine is apply some blush to spice things up and add some necessary color to my complexion! I don't wear blush on a daily basis because I like keeping things simple however, when I do I almost always go for my Benefit Benetint (which is a lip and cheek stain).

Thats it! Those 5 and sometimes 6 steps and I'm all ready to start my day off with "made up" skin!

Gotta Get...

Lip butters are probably one of my favorite types of lip products. They are extremely hydrating and really great when it comes to fixing those cracks. They also help to smooth out and protect you from that winter "chill". I love it when I can find a really effective lip butter that doesn't feel too greasy but still feels 100% hydrating. I've done some research and have come across this lip butter by Korres, which I would like to hopefully purchase soon in the color "jasmine". From the several reviews I have gone over, it is said to do just as I was hoping for. This product may be purchased here. After I have used this product regularly and feel like I have used this product enough, I'll leave you guys a review, so stay updated!

Glitter POLISH!

Okay, so glitter nail polish which is definitely a trend now, can often be messy and undesirable to some people. I actually don't have that problem but I hope that this post will help the some of you that do :)

Sometimes the polish may be translucent, therefore forcing you to apply TONS of coats to the nail enamel, which then leaves you with a gooey finish. Ew! Who wants that!

So..... This leads me to my next point! I was reading a beauty guru's blog (TiffanyD) and she had a recent post relating to this exactly. I'll copy and paste it and this will be my version of re blogging here on blogspot.

SOLID GLITTER Glittery Accent Nails

Chanel Particuliere nail polish/ MAC Glitter in Reflects Antiqued Gold
So I've decided to officially jump on the one-glitter-nail bandwagon. Problem with this for me in the past is that if I wanted an "accent" glittered nail, I wanted it to be mega, super, ridiculously glittery. If you've ever searched for a nail polish to do that with, you feel my frustration. To get that solid, super ridic glitter effect from a glitter nail polish, you might need a few coats. Resulting in what normally turns out for me to be a super thick, messy, lumpy, (still not glittery enough) nail. So I have found a perfect way to get a super pretty, solid-glitter, perfect accent nail...using.....actual glitter. You can get super fine or chunky glitter at the craft store which can be an affordable option that works perfectly, or you can do what I did and use those MAC glitters that you bought because they were super pretty but they've ended up in the back of your drawer because you never use them. Sounds messy, but I swear it's not. And it's easier and faster than using tons of coats of glitter nail polish. And did I mention the results are insane??
Here's what to do:
1. Paint all of your nails a normal non-glittery color.
2. Pick an "accent" nail for the glitter (Or go crazy and do all of them...your call.)
3. Use a thick top coat like Seche Vite and paint that over the nail to be glittered.
4. Working over a paper plate or bowl, gently dip the nail into the glitter or sprinkle the glitter directly over the nail (like I did in this case because the container was too small for dipping action).
5. Let the glitter "set" for a minute or two, giving the Seche Vite or whatever you've chosen time to dry.
6. Rinse the nail under cold water to get any excess glitter off the nail. Don't worry, if it's cold water, it won't mess anything up.
7. Paint another coat of the Seche Vite or topcoat of your choice over the glitter.

The process seriously takes as little as a couple minutes. It's my new favorite trick! Here's another tip though... If you're planning on doing this a lot, invest in another bottle of Seche Vite or whatever type of topcoat you like that will be designated just for glitter. Occasionally, a fleck of glitter can find it's way into the bottle of topcoat and will most likely end up back on your nails when you don't necessarily want that random glitter flecked look. It'll be worth it, trust me. :)
Hope you guys try this out! It's so fun!

-Tiffany

Now you don't have to imagine.....

Hahaha that title's sort of weird. anyway, here they are! Nothing too special, but they make me happpyy :)

My Nails Currently...

I thought I'd go for a soft "barbie look" so I mixed two colors. I used Susie and the Lifegaurd by OPI on the bottom and topped that off with Carnival by Essie. Imagine them together.... LOL

Fast Fix/How Cute?!

EOS Lip Balm anyone? These are the cayutestttt lip balms ever. Check them out!! http://www.evolutionofsmooth.com/products_lip_sphere.html They are all $3.29. I want one in every color ://

Benefit Benetint ROCKS

Benefit has an amazing product that I believe to be one of their best. It is definitely a worth-while investment. It is called benetint and it is a rose-tinted lip & cheek stain. (blush). It makes your cheeks looked so plushed and it has such a natural finish to it, that it looks like your blushing! Not even exaggerating!!! It comes in a liquid form, it looks sort of like nailpolish. Don't let that throw you off! This product is $28 and may be purchased here. I actually discovered this product through a close friend of mine who uses it daily. She loves how benefit's line has a central focus on creating makeup products that look natural and not over done. Benetint is a perfect example of why she thinks this.

Stila Lip Glaze Set

I was given this Stila Lip Glaze Set for my birthday and I adore it! It's great for everyday use, and the gloss isn't sticky at all. It has really good color pay off as well as great application. What I find so amazing about this set is that each one of these lip glosses sold seperately is $22. This entire kit is practically the price of one lip gloss. Unbelievable right!? There are also 8 different gorgeous shades. This product may be purchased here.

✿Beauty Gurus✿

Here it is! My ultimate list of my top favorite beauty gurus that can be found on youtube. These girls, with the exception of two men, have helped me come all this way to where I am as far as my knowledge in the beauty and cosmetics world. I give props to all of these gurus because I would know nothing without them. I hope all of you have the chance to check out every single one of these experts out as soon as possible. Make sure to sub to them too :)

New Love!

I'm so pleased to say that I am extremely happy with my new ultimate "go-to" mascara! I actually use the sample size that was given to me as one of my little birthday perks from a few friends of mine. It's called full blown volume lash building mascara, by laura mercier. It's $24 and may be purchased here. My eyelashes aren't the longest or thickest and this mascara makes them look like I'm wearing falsies! This mascara does not clump WHATSOEVER. It's bristles are so fine and almost lengthen your lashes as well as volumize them. I could not be happier with a mascara. Love, love, love it!!!!

P.S.

I did mention earlier that it isn't essential to invest your $$$ in a high end mascara such as this one, however for those of you who are interested in something of department store quality and looking to spend more, this product is great for you. Just because I say something is a great product doesn't mean you have to go out and buy it! I'm sure there are plenty of dupes out there and when I find one, you guys will be the first to know!

Makeup Madness....

ever come across http://www.eyeshadowlipstick.com/ ? It's so much fun to mess around with when looking for unique makeup looks to just try. My advice for you and for the new year: Step outside of your comfort zone. Play with colors that you'd normally stay away from! Have fun with it! This website inspired me to work with brighter colors and not be so afraid. I found these pictures really cool and thought i'd share them with you guys :)

Brushes.

Honestly, how cute are these brushes!? Michaella was just over and she pulled out these and started applying her makeup. I almost died. I love them to death! P.S. this collage took me like 45 minutes. Anyone know any simple/fast ways to make collages? Back to the brushes...They're from Sephora :)

Dedicated to A ;D

Makeup Collection....A while ago

I was looking through old files on my computer and found a picture of what my makeup collection looked like a while ago. It was so teeny back then! Check it out...

I wish I could upload a picture of my makeup collection now, but due to my constant traveling this break nothing is organized! As soon as everything is in it's place expect a before and after shot!

Real Quick!

Hey everyone! I just came across this really pretty nail polish that I thought I'd share with you guys. It's by Estee Lauder in the color Blue Dahlia. It's described as a midnight blue. I love how at first glance it appears black, but it is actually a really deep blue. I think it's just so glam and perfect for night time events! Not to mention the packaging of the bottle is pretty unique as well!

Prime Up :)

What is an eyeshadow primer? Why is it important to always wear one? Is it really that essential to include in one's makeup routine? In this post I will be answering all three of those questions probably in more detail than necessary! Okay so first off, an eyeshadow primer is a base that you apply to your lid before eyeshadow. It has silicone in it which prevents creasing. It also makes eyeshadow pigments appear more vibrant in color as well as it makes it so your eyeshadows last all day long without fading away. Sometimes eyelids tend to be on the more oily side which hinders from a smooth application of eyeshadow. Using an eye primer mattifies the oil from the lid. Sometimes eyeshadows may even melt if exposed to humid weather and such, although when wearing primer you don't need to worry about that. Not only does primer help with all of those things I have mentioned so far, but it also makes it easier to blend your eyeshadows. Some formulas even out your skintone as well. Most primers are around $20 and last a long time because the size of a rain drop or less covers the entire lid. In other words, a little goes a long way. Once you start to use an eye primer, I guarantee you will never go back because you will surely notice great results. The answer to the last question....YES. It is obviously essential to include in one's makeup routine. I think by now you know why!

I have used Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in the original sheer nude color in the past, and it worked fine for me at the time. It costs $18, and may be purchased <here>. The thing that bothered me about it was the bottle. It's a genie-like bottle and when you've used a lot of the product up, you can't get it out from the bottom so a lot of the product gets wasted because the brush thing won't let you scoop it out! I felt like part of my money was wasted. I then set out to find a new primer.

I heard amazing reviews about the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer. It also costs $18 and may be purchased <here>. I went out and bought it hoping it would be everything I wanted. After using this product daily, I have come to love this primer so much and I feel like it works better than the Urban Decay one. No product is wasted and it has just pleased me so much. I bring it with me everywhere and cannot imagine getting ready without it. So, to all of you guys that are new to the world of eyeshadow primers...I highly recommend you investing in one! (Preferably the Too Faced Primer that I have raved about). If there is anyone who has used any of primers that you would like me to know about please give me your feedback as I'd love to hear what you guys all wear!

Just in case you were wondering, I still am interested in trying a few other primers just to see if anything beats my Too Faced one. Here's a list of some that I want to check out! (P.S. if you use any of these please let me know how they work for you!)

-Lemon-Aid Eyelid Primer by Benefit May be purchased here for $20
-Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base by NARS May be purchased here for $24
-Photo Finish Lid Primer by Smashbox May be purchased here for $20
-Prep + Prime Eye by MAC May be purchased here for $16.50
